Making biscuits in air fryer is so easy and quick that you will be forced to ditch the oven. You can make it in an air fryer. Whether you like the flaky or fluffy biscuits, an air fryer can make them all a reality in a matter of minutes from frozen , refrigerated or canned, or homemade biscuits.

They turn out perfect for your sandwiches, jelly toast or to go along with the gravy dishes.

Other than biscuits this kitchen equipment is ideal to cook frozen veggies. I love to make frozen okra, frozen cauliflower, frozen brussel sprouts in air fryer.

This post is a brief guide to make all kinds of biscuits in an air fryer.

Why should you cook biscuits in air fryer?

    • Quickest. It is hands down the quickest method to biscuits. The air fryer preheats much faster than the oven and cooks the them very efficiently and quickly.

    • Crispy, fluffy, and flaky biscuits. Air fried Biscuits are no less than the baked ones. I love the convenience combined with results.

    • All kinds of biscuits can be made in an air fryer. Small, jumbo, canned refrigerated biscuits, frozen biscuits, buttermilk biscuits, you just name it. And all cooked to perfection.

    Ingredients required

    Biscuits

So, you are going to need a biscuit. It could be frozen biscuits or canned refrigerated biscuits, or even homemade biscuits. Anything will work. Today we will focus on frozen and canned biscuits.

You can use whichever brand is available in your grocery store. You can use Mary B’s frozen buttermilk biscuits, Mama’s, Pillsbury Grands, Baked house, Great value, etc. All frozen biscuits can be made using an air fryer. The same applies to canned biscuits. I am using baked house’s jumbo buttermilk biscuits in this recipe.

How to make biscuits in air fryer?

Step 1: Preheat the air fryer

To make canned biscuits in an air fryer, start by preheating it. Preheating is necessary to get crispy biscuits. So, preheat the air fryer for 4 minutes.

To do so, just turn on the air fryer and set the temperature at 330 0F ( 165 0C)for 4 minutes. Let it run with an empty basket.

Yes, just 4 minutes. Air fryer preheats much faster than our household ovens.

    Step 2: Air frying

Now open the canned biscuits and separate them. Place 4 of them in the air fryer basket giving adequate space for expansion and air circulation. Give them a milk wash if you want to.

Then cook them at 330 0F (165 0C ) for 5 minutes. Pull out the basket and flip the biscuits to cook evenly from both sides. Then air fry them for 4 more minutes or until they turn golden brown. Since these are jumbo biscuits, they took about 9 minutes of cook time.

If you are using medium-sized biscuits, you might want to pull out the basket after air frying for 2–3-minute post-flip. Repeat the process with the remaining biscuits.

Take them out and serve warm with your favorite jam or sheer butter.

I tested 330 and 360 0F for making biscuits and realized that 330 0Fworks slightly better. Look at the image and choose for yourself.

image showing air fried biscuits at 330 and 360 degree F

Canned refrigerated biscuits in oven style air fryer

To make the canned biscuits in an oven-style air fryer, use only a single shelf (a single layer at a time). Overcrowding both the shelves leave them undercooked. The water vapors from the biscuits on the lower shelf will make the biscuits placed on the upper shelf soggy. They will take longer to air fry and there are chances that they might remain undone from the center or not cook evenly.

Our best bet is to use a single shelf/ single layer and lay the canned biscuits on it, while giving adequate space. There is no need to flip the biscuits in the oven-style air fryers. Just air fry them at 330 0F until they turn golden brown. It would take 8-10 minutes depending on the size of the biscuits.

How to make Frozen biscuits in air fryer

The temperature and duration to cook frozen and canned biscuits just differ by 2-3 minutes. All you need to do is keep an eye towards the end.

How to make homemade biscuits using an air fryer

If you are making fresh homemade biscuits, this southern crispy biscuits recipe will still work, just minus 2 minutes from the air fryer cooking duration.

How to serve air fried biscuits ?

Biscuits make great breakfast, a side bread for dunking gravy or soups, and many more. A few ways that we enjoy them are:

    • Breakfast bread. Serve the air fried biscuits as breakfast bread. They are rich delicate, buttery, and crispy bread. They go great with all sorts of jams, butter, nut butter, or jellies.
    • Sandwich. They made excellent Just eggs sandwiches. Try making a vegetable sandwich for a change.
    • Dunk in gravy. Serve them alongside your favorite gravy.

How to reheat and store ?

If you have some leftover biscuits, keep them covered in a kitchen towel at the kitchen counter and consume them within a day.

But if you are planning to consume them within a day, the best way is to freeze them. Place them in an airtight freezer-safe bag and squeeze out any excess air. Seal the bag and cover it with a foil. Mark it with the date and contents and freeze it for weeks.

To reheat the air-fried frozen biscuits, set the temperature to 330 0F and cook them for 5 minutes or until done.

Pro Tips for making perfect biscuits

    • Adjust the air fryer timing depending on the type of biscuits. The frozen biscuits will take 2-3 minutes more than the refrigerated or homemade biscuits.
    • Also, look for the size of the biscuits the jumbo biscuits will take 2-3 minutes more than the standard-sized biscuits.
    • Do not place the biscuits very closely. They need space to rise plus additional space for the air circulation after the biscuits have risen. The simple rule is not to overcrowd the biscuits in the basket. 4-5 are max. for an 8qt basket style air fryer.
    • If you are using an oven-style air fryer, use only single shelf at a time. Also, there is no need to flip the biscuits in such air fryers.
    • But if you are using an air fryer that has a basket, you should be turning them halfway through the cooking time. Though this does have some cosmetic side effects flipping ensures even cooking on both sides. This guarantees no undercooked core.
    • If you are unsure if the biscuits are fully cooked through, look for a brown color on both sides. Alternately you can use an instant-read thermometer to check the internal temperature. It should be more than 205 degree F (about than 96 degree C).
    • It is always a good idea to open the air fryer and check for the doneness 2-3 minutes before the suggested time. Pull out the air fryer basket before the lowest given cook time in a recipe and see for yourself, how much more time you need.

Fully cooked biscuits will have 205-210 0F of internal temperature.

How to keep the biscuits crispy and prevent them from getting soft?

Make sure to cool them completely before storing them. Any moisture remaining inside the biscuits will make them soft on storage. Store them in an airtight container to avoid exposure to moisture to retain their crispiness.
