Ingredients

  • 400 g Peach chopped 2 ½ cups of chopped peaches (3 large peaches)
  • 200 g sugar1 cup
  • 200 g water slightly less than 1 cup

Instructions

Step 1 Prepare peaches

  • To make peach syrup start by washing and chopping the peaches into small cubes while retaining the peel.
  • If you are using frozen peaches, skip to the second step.

Step 2 Cook peaches in sugar syrup.

  • Measure the chopped peaches, sugar, and water. Combine everything in a saucepan and start cooking at medium flame.
  • After the sugar melts reduce the flame to simmer and let the peaches cook for 9-10 minutes or until they become mushy.
  • Turn off the flame and let the syrup cool for 10 minutes.

Step 3 Strain, cool, and store

  • After the syrup cools a bit, pass it through a metal strainer. Place a strainer in a bowl or at the mouth of a jar.
  • Using the back of a spoon or fork, press the cooked peach through the strainer to collect the peach pulp with syrup in a bowl or a jar.
  • Let the syrup cool completely before closing the lid.
  • If you are planning to can the peach syrup, use sterile mason jars to collect the peach syrup.

Notes

  • Choose clean, ripe, and sweet peaches for making the syrup.
  • You can also use frozen peaches to make peach syrup.
  • If you are using nectarines in place of peaches, select the ones that are ripe and sweet.
  • While cooking the peaches, cook them at low flame, and else it will become sauce and not syrup. If that happens, add a tablespoon of water at a time to fix the consistency of the syrup, while the peaches are still cooking.
  • The exact time required to cook the peaches will depend on the firmness of the peaches.
  • Use corn syrup, gelatin, or agar-agar to thicken simple syrups without having to add more sugar.
  • If you do not plan to use it within a week, make sure you use a clean, dry, and sterile jar with airtight lids.
